John
John has been a patient of mine for several years, and over time, we had seen more and more wear and chipping of his upper front incisors. The tips of John’s teeth were becoming so thin, that you could see through the translucent edges. The options for John were to restore the teeth with crowns or to do nothing. Doing nothing would result in more wear and chipping at a faster rate than in the past and the treatment required to correct it in the future would be more involved and costly.
John decided that it was best for him to restore the teeth now. We proceeded with the usual preparation and repaired the damage done to the teeth and restored the length with beautiful ceramic crowns. John had the work done in 2007 and the crowns are as beautiful and functional as the day they were finished.
Darlene
Darlene’s situation was similar to John (above) except that all of her teeth were involved. Darlene and her husband had moved to Colorado and I had not seen her for about a year when she called to schedule a consultation. She was becoming very concerned about the breaking of her teeth. After a thorough exam, we found that the cause of Darlene’s fractures was a TMJ/occlusion problem. Her teeth were not all occluding evenly and was causing her jaw to shift and for the teeth to interfere with each other in the process.
Once the TMJ/occlusion problem had been resolved, we proceeded to restore all of her teeth with ceramic crowns that gave her the strength, beauty, and functional longevity that we wanted. Darlene’s work was completed in 2008 and I am fortunate that she and her husband still come back from Colorado.
