James Poyak, DDS
Dr. Poyak was born and grew up near Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, and then served in the US Navy as a dentist while stationed at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After leaving the Navy, he and his wife, Susan, moved to New Hampshire where he started his own practice. In 1985, his family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona.
Outside of the office, Dr. Poyak is an avid scuba diver and wishes that Arizona was on the ocean. He and his wife also love spending time with their horses and they are both highly involved with their church.
Dr. Poyak has become a continual student for advanced knowledge and skills in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, as well as orthodontics. He has achieved fellowship status in the International Association for Orthodontics and is currently working toward becoming a diplomat for the association. In addition, he is also the current Secretary for the International Association forOrthodontics. He also received training in endodontics (root canal therapy) at Harvard University while living in New Hampshire. Dr. Poyak has acquired extensive training from the Pankey Institute and the Center for Advanced Dental Studies in Florida in restorative and reconstructive dentistry, in addition to acquiring over 600 hours of continuing education in orthodontics. He has been actively involved and has served as past president at his local dental society, has participated as a member of ethics and peer review committees, and served as a consultant to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners for 17 years.
